Frequently Asked Dental Questions – Fort Worth, TX
Always Happy to
Inform Our Patients!
Dentistry has only advanced over the years, which means if you’re unsure about a specific treatment or you simply haven’t been to a dentist in a long time and need guidance for your future care, we’re always here to help. We’ve received many questions from patients and have included the most common ones we hear for your convenience. Of course, feel free to call us directly if you have another question that is not listed.
When should I come in for a dental cleaning?
We recommend visiting our dental office at least once every six months to have a cleaning completed. However, if you are suffering from gum disease, you may need to visit once every three to four months. This allows us to not only remove plaque and tartar but confirm your gum disease has not come back.
My tooth is damaged. Can it be saved?
We do everything possible to save teeth and consider tooth extractions to be only a last resort. If you’re in need of restorative dentistry, we can place dental fillings and dental crowns to cover damaged portions. However, if teeth do need to be removed, we can placed a traditional dental bridge to fill the gap.
My gums hurt. Do I have gum disease?
The only way to know for sure if you have gum disease is to complete a detailed evaluation at our dental office. If you notice your gums turning bright red or purple, feeling tender or sensitive to touch, or beginning to pull away from teeth, you may have advanced gum disease. Thankfully, our in-house periodontist Dr. Vasquez can help.
Does root canal therapy hurt?
Not at all! The discomfort people usually associate with root canal therapy is the pain caused by the oral infection that led to needing root canal therapy in the first place. We always provide local anesthetic before treatment, making therapy feel more akin to receiving a dental filling.
If my teeth are misaligned, will I need braces?
Not necessarily. Severe cases of misalignment or uneven bites usually require traditional braces to fix, but mild to moderate cases are often treatable using Invisalign’s clear aligner system. We’ll confirm which treatment you should consider during your Invisalign consultation.
Do you place dental implants?
We sure do! Not only are we able to place single dental implants to replace single missing teeth, but we can also place multiple dental implants for larger, more complex restorations. For example, we are happy to offer implant-retained bridges, dentures, and even the All-on-4 procedure, which requires just four implants to replace an entire arch of teeth!
What’s the fastest way to hide smile imperfections?
While we offer multiple solutions for teeth containing stains, chips, cracks, gaps, and minor rotations, one of the most effective and quickest treatments for transforming your smile is porcelain veneers. Veneers are designed to mimic your natural tooth enamel almost exactly, but it’s important to keep in mind that treatment for them will permanently alter your enamel in the process.
